Air Conditioning Thermostat – Con Edison Offers Free Remote Air Conditioning Thermostats

Summer's coming sure as spring follows winter. To help customers prepare for the summer, Con Edison is offering a free programmable thermostat to customers with central air conditioning.

More than 5,500 Con Edison customers already have enrolled in a high-tech program to help ensure reliable power for themselves and their neighbors while saving energy and money by managing their home electricity use.

The system allows customers to control their air conditioners' thermostats via the Internet. And the technology also allows Con Edison to remotely adjust those thermostats to reduce electricity demand.

In Westchester County, more than 1,900 customers are participating; Staten Island has nearly 2,600. The rest are scattered throughout Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Manhattan. To be eligible, a residential customer must have central air conditioning. The program also is available to religious institutions with central air conditioning.

“The first season of the remote air conditioning program has been an overwhelming success. This summer Con Edison is again offering our customers one of the most modern systems to help ensure reliable power during times of high demand,” said Stephen F. Wood, vice president of engineering services and Staten Island electric operations.

As participation in the program grows, so does the amount of electricity that's available for all Con Edison customers on summer's hottest days - ensuring reliable power for New York City and Westchester. To receive a free thermostat, which will be installed at no charge, customers may call 1-866-521-8600 or visit www.conEd.com/cool.
